Joshua Benevento joined the parish staff as Assistant Director of Music in the Fall of 2016. Named “A substantial tenor” by Opera News, Joshua Benevento recently won a Grammy Award for his involvement in the Metropolitan Opera’s new Ring Cycle recording. Mr. Benevento sung leading roles in numerous operas including Fidelio, Ariadne auf Naxos, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Aida, Turandot, Carmen, Gianni Schicchi, Hansel und Gretel, La Boheme, at various companies, among which are The Metropolitan Opera, American Classical Orchestra, New Jersey Verismo Opera, New Rochelle Opera, Purchase Opera, Wyckoff Opera, and the State Repertory Opera New Jersey. Success on the recital stage has lead him to performing at Carnegie Hall after winning the first place in the Liederkranz competition. The New York premiere of Lee Hoiby’s brilliant opera, The Tempest, included Mr. Benevento performing the challenging and exquisite role of Caliban, which he later interpreted on a recording recently released by Albany Records to rave reviews by three of the major reviewers of recorded works. He also created the role of the Uncle in the highly acclaimed world premiere production of Raphaël Lucas's Confession, another opera he recorded with Albany Records. After a singing a very successful production of Ward's beloved American opera, The Crucible, Mr. Benevento most recently recorded the role of Judge Danforth in the first ever studio recording of the opera which is due to be released in early 2017. Active as a private teacher and adjunct voice faculty at the State College of New York at Purchase, combined with years of experience in church music situations, Joshua will be bringing a unique skill set to our parish music ministry program. He will be working with the Children’s Choirs and Adult Choirs as well as assisting in the management of Music at Immaculate, our parish concert series, as well as other areas of parish life.
